Transgender-affirming care should be rooted in trust, dignity, and respect — qualities that are hard to find and prevent many youth and adults from seeking the care they need. At The R.O.C. Center, we serve each person with a deep belief that your unique health journey and gender identity deserve to be seen, supported, and honored. Our LGBTQIA+-trained and gender-affirming providers understand your needs, offer trauma-informed and culturally competent care, and protect essential rights with details like all-gender restrooms. Call our New Orleans, Louisiana, or Houston, Texas, office or book online to schedule an appointment for gender-affirming care.
Gender-affirming care is a holistic approach covering the social, behavioral, psychological, and medical interventions needed to establish and support an individual’s gender identity.
At The R.O.C. Center, we offer emotional and interpersonal counseling and medical gender-affirming treatments. Gender confirmation surgery is seldom provided to people younger than 18. However, our sensitive team can help you with that decision and refer you to a respectful specialist.
We provide a safe, sensitive, and nonjudgmental environment for youth and adults needing gender-affirming services. Our team has extensive experience caring for:
Trans women, trans men, and nonbinary individuals
Intersex people
Gender-expansive youth and adults
BIPOC trans people
People exploring their gender identity or expression
We provide comprehensive gender-affirming services, including:
Gender-affirming primary care
Hormone therapy (initial care and ongoing management)
Health screenings tailored to your anatomy and identity
Support letters for surgery
Support for ID and legal documentation

Our gender-affirming care supports you at every step of your journey.
Hormone therapy can prevent puberty and develop more masculine or feminine characteristics.
If you haven’t started or completed puberty, you can take hormones that suppress the sex hormones released at puberty.
Puberty blockers decrease or prevent physical changes that don’t align with your gender identity, giving youth the time they need to decide the gender-affirming steps they want to take.
This type of hormone therapy minimizes feminine characteristics. Your voice may deepen, you may develop facial and body hair, and notice an increase in muscle. These hormones may also increase your sex drive, stop menstruation, and cause clitoral growth.
Feminizing hormone therapy reduces masculine characteristics. As a result, you may notice breast growth, a loss of muscle mass, and reduced body hair. Other changes that often occur include a decrease in ejaculatory fluid and testicular size.
