What can STI testing and treatment detect?

What are the symptoms of STIs?

While not all STDs cause symptoms, you may notice:

• Unusual or smelly vaginal or penis discharge
• Burning or painful urination
• Genital, oral, or rectal bumps or sores
• Pain during sex 
• Unusual vaginal bleeding in women
• Swollen or sore lymph nodes
• Fever
• Lower abdominal pain
• Rash on your feet, hands, or trunk

Symptoms might appear within a few days up to several years after exposure to an STI. 

What does STI testing and treatment consist of?

STI testing at The R.O.C. Center consists of a discussion about your symptoms and medical history, a physical exam if necessary, and blood tests, urine testing, or fluid samples or swabs. It is low-cost and may be ready in 30 minutes (or less). 

You also have an at-home testing option using home test kits provided by The R.O.C. Center and delivered right to your doorstep. Simply call our case management team, receive your kit in discreet packaging, collect the sample, and return it with prepaid shipping.

Treating an STI includes taking medications to cure the disease or using medicines to effectively manage your symptoms long-term and minimize the chance of STIs spreading to other people.

The R.O.C. Center also offers a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) program to prevent HIV and DoxyPEP for bacterial STI prevention, as well as LGBTQIA+ affirming care, sexual health education and workshops, free condoms, and safer sex kits.
